Kumarage, a specialist from Kandy, was chosen as the 11th Basnayake Nilame Temeple uncontested at the decision held at the District Secretariat of Monaragala today.
Four sanctuaries, the acting Basnayake Nilame of Kuda Katharagama and Kataragama Devales, 11 Provincial Secretaries of the Monaragala area are qualified to make their choice to choose the New Basnayake Nilame of the Ruhunu Kataragama Devalaya.
The Government had purportedly sent a unique group of authorities to see to the leading of the decision as there were media reports that certain intense people are looking at this prestigious post.
Kumarage assumes control from Yasasiri Kasthuriarachchi who served as acting Basnayake Nilame of the Devalaya after Shashindra Rajapaksa's residency terminated in March.
