A prominent personality in the party of Minister of Housing, Construction, Engineering and Public Utilities Wimal Weerawansa, has quit and joined Common Opposition Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Attorney at Law Mahesh Madawela today (December 18) quit as the Akmeemana chief organiser of the Jathika Nidahas Perumana headed by Weerawansa and pledged his support for Maithripala Sirisena in Habaraduwa in the Galle district.
Addressing a Press conference, Madawela said that he decided to quit as he did not wish to fall to the dictates of Weerawansa or suck up to his questionable ways.
On the previous day, another member of Weerawansa's party, Asela Kosala Ranganath Kosgoda who was the organiser for Ratgama also in Galle, quit and joined Maithripala Sirisena at a public meeting.
