JHU to support Opp. candidate

If Mahinda Rajapaksa does not approve the proposals of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, which include abolishing powers of executive presidency, the party will be compelled to support the opposition's candidate at the forthcoming Presidential election, chairperson of the party Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera.
However, the party is to take a final decision on this regard, the Thera emphasises, adding that a massive rally would be held together with opposing parties and civil organisations in Colombo next Wednesday to urge the government to implement 'Mahinda Chinthana' policies.

By Nov. 15, we would collect the all national forces to one place. In the next step, we would enter a dialog on how to defeat the government if it calls for a Presidential election.
Even though President Rajapaksa pledged during the last discussion to implement the JHU proposals after the presidential election, the JHU chairperson says that he cannot accept it.
Hollow promises
After contesting twice, we have no moral right to do this for a third time for hollow promises, the Thera adds.
