The Sri Lanka Electricity Board says that the power of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya was cut off today (3) due to non-payment of the electricity bill of 41 lakhs.
In this regard, in an inquiry with Mr. Samudranatha Jayawardena, Anuradhapura District Regional Electrical Engineer, he also confirmed this.
The Mihintala Rajamaha Vihara chief Reverend Valawa Hangunavewe Dhammarathana Thero said that the power supply to the Mihintala sacred area, which was the center of the establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and was the primary place for Sri Maha Bo Samidun to visit, was cut off this afternoon (3).
He said here that because he is speaking directly, the political movement will take revenge from Shasana to save his seat.
He also said:
” This power cut was done at a time when many development activities were being carried out such as the construction of Mihindu Saya in the Mihintala Rajamaha Temple.
As a result, there will be no water in the future, the Buddha Mandir, the police post, archaeological monuments where the relics are buried, this puja land, which is more than a thousand acres, will be in darkness from today.
Because of this, the antiquities of Mihintala are becoming unsafe, and this land can become a hunting ground for hunters. The government should also act for this from today. It seems that it was implemented to disconnect, and the archeological department should use guards to protect these antiquities.
In the future, the devotees who come to visit Mihinthalaya will have to bring a torch or a whole branch if they want to save the animal from the snake and worship Mihinthalaya.
What is happening is all these 225 taking revenge from the Shasana, we should also responsible as we too have voted for these people.
Due to the power cut off, the theras of the temple as well as the contributors are facing great inconvenience. Therefore, we request that meters be installed in the Sanghavas and provide separate electricity. We will pay them. There is no way to pay a bill of 35 lakhs. No money at this time, please
Or install a solar panel system. It will work. We don’t need electricity.
It is reported that this has happened for the first time in history.
