Central Bank Bill passed with amendments

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka Bill was passed with amendments yesterday (20) afternoon in Parliament by a majority of 42 votes. 
 
There were 66 votes in favour of the Bill and only 24 votes against it. A majority of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MPs voted in favour of the Bill.
 
At the time of polling, members of the political parties Samagi Jana Balawegaya, National Jana Balawegaya and Sukanda Janata Sabha in the House voted against the Bill.

The debate on the Bill was held yesterday (20). More than twenty MPs from the ruling party and the Opposition spoke during the debate. 
 
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka Bill includes many provisions to make the Central Bank of Sri Lanka an independent institution.
