MP Vijitha Herath of the National People’s Power says the party is ready to face the main challenge, which is a General election. “But before that, we ask the Government to hold the Local Government elections.
The Election Commission is refusing to give an accurate date.
The MP made these comments while addressing a party meeting in Nawalapitiya on Saturday.
According to Herath despite the Government possessing military and financial power it is evident that they are afraid of the people’s power. “The Rajapaksas and Ranil Wickremesinghe do not have a mandate and are not viewed favourably in public opinion. It has been proven in the grassroots itself,” he noted.
One cannot continue to remain in the President’s seat through the power of weapons without any human capital or public trust. “The people learnt this for the first time in the country’s history through Gotabaya Rajapaksa. No leader in the world can remain in power for even one day without having the power of the people behind him. Our country itself has proved this by example,” he said. “It won’t be long before he has to hand over power,” the MP opined.
