Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, says that there will be no increase in electricity rates.

Mr. Janaka Rathnayake stated this in response to a query made by Newsfirst on whether steps will be taken to increase electricity tariffs.
 
A senior government spokesperson said that yesterday (09) approval was given to the proposal submitted to the cabinet regarding the increase in electricity tariffs.

He mentioned that this approval had been given on the basis of a review by February 15.

The spokesman said that after the review, the electricity charges may be reduced again.

Meanwhile, Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, said that he received a proposal related to the electricity tariff revision yesterday afternoon.
