Two foreign nationals fraudulently withdrew 57 Lakhs Sri Lankan rupees from two ATMs in Galle

Galle Police said that two foreigners using fake cards at the ATM of a state bank in the Baddegama and Karapitiya had stolen an enormous sum of cash. According to Baddegama and Galle police, the suspects fraudulently withdrew 57 lakh rupees from the machine and 2.75 million rupees from a Galle Karapitiya state bank.

Two foreign nationals accessed an ATM at Baddegama State Bank and fraudulently withdrew 1,140 in 5,000- denominations notes  without causing any damage to the ATM. The bank manager reported to the Baddegama police that cash was stolen from the ATM, which was discovered while reviewing security camera footage.
According to a Baddegama police officer, this fraud was committed using a AT M card.

After learning that money had been stolen from two State Bank branches in Hikkaduwa and Karapitiya, the manager of a Baddegama Bank branch checked the bank’s automated teller machine. When the machine was examined, it was discovered that this money had been taken, thus a police complaint was filed.

In addition, the management has informed the police that despite the fact that the bank’s computer data system indicates the presence of cash, there is none in the ATM.

In the meantime, a police officer from the Galle police headquarters said that yesterday, two foreigners fled the ATM at the Galle Karapitiya State Bank branch with 275,000 rupees using a counterfeit card.

The manager of that bank branch has filed a police report regarding this incident.
